EXCITING!
My mom loves cross-stitching and she has this one. I've borrowed this book from my mom last summer, and I already completed 5 designs from this book! The designs range from simple ones to a-little- bit-complex ones. It's really exciting to do it yourself!

Santa Claus An American Treasure
A wonderful variety of Santa's to cross stitch! The very best of the Christmas Remembered series by Leisure Arts. My personal favorite: "Santa's Workshop". This book will bring back memeories of childhood to everyone who reads it and the projects will be treasures to hand down through the generations.

Charted Peasant Designs from Saxon Transylvania
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (October, 1997)
Authors: Heinz Edgar Kiewe, Emil Sigerus, and Hienz Kiewe
Average review score:

A charming collection of counted cross stitch folk designs..
An introduction discusses many origions throughout ethinic groups, religions and countries over hundreds of years. Each plate is numbered with their "probable origin, date and use of pattern." References include: falcons, carnations, peacocks, tree of life, pomegranite, and numerous other plants and animals.

The actual 95 charts are monochrome on 5x5 grid. They are printed as repeating bands on 40 pages. The grid is a little small (can easily be enlarged on a copier), but being black and white makes the charts relatively easy to follow. The charts can be stitched with one color, with shaded floss, or any color combinations you choose.

The front cover motif is a collection of individual bands, a true sample of the contents of this charming Dover publication. This is an inexpensive but pleasing addition to any stitching library.

A Child's Garden of Bible Stories

Average review score:

My Favorite Book of Bible Stories
This was my favorite book of bible stories as a young child. It has beautiful pictures and the stories are written so that a young person in grade school can read them. Young children gravitate to this book.

I like to give copies of this book as presents to young children - I only wish it were in hard back as mine was.

Great Active Games
This is a treasure trove for anyone who leads children's groups: scout leaders, camp counselors, Sunday school teacher, etc. The games are timeless, and many require no equipment. Children love the games, and enjoy the connection they feel with the children of another time and place.

Chinese American Family Therapy: A New Model for Clinicians
Published in Hardcover by Jossey-Bass (June, 1998)
Author: Marshall Jung
Average review score:

Jung's model reflects his own personal and cultural journey.
Jung's Chinese American Family Therapy (CAFT) model draws on the best of family therapy, while maintaining strong ties to the Chinese cultural. Jung blends a mixture of Structural and Strategic family therapies with a focus upon the interpersonal and intrapersonal that allows for complete healing.

Jung's mixture of the more technique oriented versions of therapy with a more depth and emotion focused theory matches the Chinese cultural. Contextual therapy allows the values of loyalty and exoneration to become a meaningfulk part of the therapeutic process. The technique oriented aspect of CAFT allows the more traditional Chinese client to receive something immediately to fix the problem. The immediate fix allows the therapist to establish credibility and a safe environment for therapy to procede.

Christ's Passion, Our Passions: Reflections on the Seven Last Words from the Cross
Published in Hardcover by Cowley Publications (February, 2003)
Author: Margaret Bullitt-Jonas
Average review score:

An amazing series of meditations
This book is like a long drink of cool water, an amazing series of meditations on one of the most difficult traditions in Christianity, those last words from Jesus while on the cross. Margaret Bullitt Jonas manages to take those words and forge them into meaningful meditations for our modern lives. She reflects on forgiveness, the solace of the natural world and its terrible vulnerability, as well as power and "sin." This is not just for Christians, but for anyone who wants to reflect on the moral and ethical issues that bind us, in the company of a fine mind and soul.

The Cigarette Sellers of Three Crosses Square
Published in Unknown Binding by Vallentine Mitchell (1970)
Author: Joseph Ziemian
Average review score:

True stories are the best stories.
This book catalogues the experiences of children who survived World War Two. That in itself is a stunning feat. But these weren't just children, these were Jewish children. They escaped from the Warsaw ghetto. The book follows the lives of the Sellers, both while within the ghetto and while they lived beyond it's walls. Being agile, and small, they were able to cross over the border into Gentile Warsaw and forage for food. They would bring the food back to their families, being the sole providers in a world designed not to provide. When the ghetto was liquidated, these children moved as they always had, into the city, but never moved back. The book follows their lives, their exploits and adventures, and their heartbreaks. It is a stunning book, not only for the subject matter, but for it's testament to the human spirit. These children didn't just survive. They lived.

Clara Barton: Founder of American Red Cross
Published in Library Binding by Random Library (November, 1963)
Authors: Helen Dore Boylston and Paula Huchison
Average review score:

An interesting and informative biography of Barton.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The text was accurate yet lively, the details fascinating. This book was a wonderful insight into the life of a couragous woman who braved great danger to help others. Clara Barton should be a role model to all. She braved Civil War battlefields to nurse the wounded and then fought for an American chapter of the Red Cross. I highly reccomend this book to all!

Christian Cross Stitch
Published in Paperback by Search Pr Ltd (January, 2000)
Author: Gisela Banbury
Average review score:

Not for the serious stitcher
In my quest for christian cross stitch patterns, I purchased this book along with several others. This is the worst one I acquired. I wish I could have reviewed it before buying. Don't get this one.

Wonderful instructional
A well produced instructional/reference book. It features detailed (yet easy to follow) instructional text and full color patterns and photos of the various projects. Its' selection of traditional and unique Christian themed projects are: panels, samplers, bible and prayer book covers, wall hangings, cards, cushion covers, christening gown, decorative cloth, and more.
